Advice for New members re Equipment:
Some of you may be considering getting new bows/arrows during your time within the sport. If you are please take the time to speak to experienced members re equipment before doing so. It can save you a lot of money in the long run.
BOWS
Before buying a bow ask other members if you can try their bow to see which draw weight suits you best.
If buying an ILF (International Limb Fitting) bow then you should consider buying one a couple of pounds more than you think you need.
If, say, you think you'd be comfiest with a 24 pound draw weight then buy a 26 pound draw weight. The ILF bows have tiller bolts that can be adjusted up and down so a 26 pounder can be adjusted down to just over 24 lbs or upwards to just under 28 lbs. That way (as you progress you'll want/need a stronger bow) you'll save money by having an adjustable bow that will last you for years.
ARROWS
It's not the case that any old arrow will do you. Your arrows have to be compatible with your bow. Arrows are graded in a way to match the draw weight of a bow. So for instance, if you buy a bow with a draw weight of 30 lbs you will need an arrow with a spine graded at 600. The lower the spine rating on an arrow the heavier the draw weight is on the bow.
Please check the spine charts posted on our Facebook page for further information by using the search facility.
For an at a glance chart type "Spine Chart" in the search facility.
In the Bow Rating click Recurve, then enter your bow's draw weight then enter your preferred arrow length then click search for the arrows most compatible with your bow.
BOWSTRINGS
Bowstrings come in different materials and differing numbers of strands per string. Different draw weights require different strings.
Please check the Bowstrings chart for the best string compatible with your bow by typing "Bowstrings" in our Facebook page search facility.
